Collage and mixed media

Collage and mixed media

Course dates: September 25th - 27th 2017 (Monday - Wednesday)

Collage has always had a strong influence in painting with its fascinating ability to manipulate composition and juxtapose different surfaces together. Matisse described the process of making them as both “cutting directly into colour” and “drawing with scissors.”   More recently with the advancement in painting technologies have opened up possibilities for artists to create collages and introduce mixed media in new and exciting ways. One of the lovely aspects to college is that you can bring elements of the world into your work from textiles, paper, folk art or photographs. During the 3 day course we will start with looking at traditional methods in collage and how it can be used to open up your work through recycling drawings, paintings and studies. As the course progresses I will demonstrate how mediums can be used to collage skins and how these techniques can simultaneously be used to create image transfers.

For students the course facilitates the need to push boundaries and explores the magic that collage has to offer.
