The Visual Language of Paint

The Visual Language of Paint

An artist’s job is to notice and respond in particular to both their subject and their materials. When handled sensitively and confidently paint has the possibility of creating sensual, evocative and poetic equivalents to our experience of the world around us. This four day course is designed to heighten artists awareness of the versatility and beautiful properties of paint. It will also improve their confidence and judgment when making work. We will work with the following themes; Improvisation - the confidence to invent and play. Combining Sensation and Observation - getting more inspiration from your subject. Confidence to arrange, change and develop motifs. Courage and judgment to allow a painting to evolve rather than be planned. Students will create a series of paintings over the four days applying these themes. The paint gives you the subject and is the subject. Working in this way brings you closer to your subject and the painting and new images and ideas come from the paint itself.
