Painting Master Class in Cape Town, South Africa (NEW)

The studio for this course is located in a cool, bohemian part of Cape Town. The fantastic working space is in the huge top floor studio of the performing Arts College; overlooking Table Mountain and views of a colorful tapestry of rooftops and industrial buildings.

The four concentrated days of painting will be an opportunity for artists to have guidance and ‘a creative push’ to develop ongoing projects and paintings. Emily will start each day with stimulating and focusing exercises that will help each artist to be more courageous, enquiring and inventive. As an artist is it essential to have an open mind to the possible directions your work could take, to learn to see what is happening in the work and notice what is important. When necessary it is important to view the changes that need to be made in ones work as new opportunities and possibilities rather than as mistakes and accidents. Adaptation and invention of a piece of work is when it get interesting. Then you have to fully engage with the rich possibilities of the materials and to try new ways of working. Emily will help you to come away feeling more confident and resourceful for those moments when you feel stuck or bored with your work. She will help you to gain a better understanding of makes you tick as an artist and also provide processes that can help you to resolve paintings and create work that is strong, poignant and individual to you and your experiences.
