wishing you A creative 2019!
Happy New Year! The New Year is an opportunity to reflect on how best to use our time. To think about what matters and summon up the energy to go forward and do it with joy and dedication.
At the end of last year I went to see two very inspiring exhibitions both of which gave me something to aspire to and ponder on for this year. The Anni Albers show at Tate Modern in London (the show continues until January 27th, click on the title in red to find out more). She was a weaver whose work was hypnotising, subtle and sophisticated. There is a quiet intensity and playfulness in her variations of texture, motifs and colours. However, I was equally inspired by such an uplifting celebration of one woman's immense, single minded dedication to her work.
Amy Sillman at Camden Art Centre
The second show was Amy Sillman at Camden Arts Centre; a fabulous space displaying satisfyingly large, painterly canvases and an installation of suspending drawings. She is a contemporary American painter who loves to celebrate the flow of images; layered, animated, repeated, unfinished and recycled. There is both a seriousness in her subject yet humour and a clear, direct, physical celebration of painting. The show is now finished but click on the title to be taken to the web site to find out more about this artist and Camden Arts Centre. Landline Amy Sillman.
There is a third show that I am looking forward to seeing very soon; Bonnard 'The Memory of Colour' at the Tate (January 23rd - 6th of May 2019). It will hopefully be a sumptuous feast of colour and light.
At Seawhite Studio we have an exciting year ahead, with new courses and shows and some of our signature favourites, including our wonderful short courses programme and our very special Summer School. This first newsletter of the year brings a taste of what's on offer!
